What CWN Is

Chinese Wordnet (CWN) is a lexical-semantic resource built to represent Chinese word senses and the semantic relations among them. Its core units are synsets and the network of relations that connect them, allowing Chinese lexical knowledge to be explored as an interpretable semantic graph.

Resource Structure

CWN focuses on open-class items, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. Each synset is paired with a short gloss and, in most cases, example sentences, while polysemous word forms are represented through distinct sense pairings so that each form-sense combination remains unique within the resource.

Stewardship and Formats

The resource reflects nearly two decades of development. It was first advanced through Academia Sinica-led work and completed in 2010; National Taiwan University now maintains and extends it through broader, more flexible research tooling, including XML, SQLite, and WordNet LMF-oriented formats for computational and cross-lingual use.
